As the seasons change, so does the style of babywearing. There are many tips and tricks, as well as great products, available to make babywearing in any weather or climate a breeze! Here are a few of the fun and helpful hints we have found to share and help babywearers in all places on the globe.
Winter…
some parts of the world experience blizzard snows and below zero temperatures. While I don’t think anyone would recommend staying outside for very long periods of time, there are a few tips and helpful items for babywearing during the winter months. The Isara Babywearing Cover is made of a weatherproof outer Softshell, with a soft and fuzzy inner lining to keep warm and cozy. Being waterproof, windproof and breathable allows this to be one of our favorites for keeping baby protected from the elements in front or back carries and in any style carrier.
Spring…
the sun finally comes out, and being outside for longer periods of time means protecting delicate baby skin from sunburn. Many people find it helpful to have a small travel umbrella, which is easy to pack in any small bag or purse, and serves two purposes to protect baby and wearer from the sun, as well as keep you dry in spring showers. Another important item to have is a wide-brimmed sunhat for baby, and maybe even for mama; one which keeps the sun off of their face and neck.
Summer…
in some places summer means HOT. Very high temperatures means the need to find creative ways to stay cool. One product many babywearers find helpful for keeping cool while babywearing are “frogg toggs chilly pads”. These little machine-washable towels hold water and cool, keeping you and baby dry, for up to 4hrs. They are easy to slip in between baby and the wearer in a front or back carry with any style carrier. Another cool little product to keep the harsh sun from burning soft little legs and feet are summer baby leggings. Some brands have unique baby leggings which repel the sun’s rays and are also made of a very breathable material to keep cool.
Fall…
many people spend a lot of time outdoors during the fall months when the weather is sometimes cool and the air is refreshing. A few fun products are on the market to stay a little warmer for longer trips outdoors. Many brands offer babywearing sweatshirts and sweaters to be worn over the baby and wearer and they usually have expandable panels to allow for growing babies and toddlers. Spending as little time as possible getting your little one into and out of the carrier while it is a bit chilly outside is also important. One easy way to do this is to wear your soft structured carrier under your clothes, or, to tie your wrap before you leave the house, so you can easy maneuver baby into and out of the wrap easily and quickly. Pre-tying your wrap helps to get baby in and out faster, as well as keeps your wrap clean from the leaves and possible dirt from the ground.
Do you have other tips and trick that other babywearers could benefit from? We would love to hear from you and add to this collection to help other babywearers out there!
